Common repairs

Problems we fix every week

Loose & wobbly chairs

Joints are dismantled, cleaned of old glue and rebuilt with new dowels and a structural adhesive.

Split & cracked tops

Splits are closed and glued, gaps filled with matched timber and the surface levelled for refinishing.

Sticking drawers

Runners rebuilt or replaced, bottoms re-fixed and sides trued so drawers glide smoothly again.

Broken bed frames

Cracked rails, failed brackets and squeaking joints reinforced so the bed stays silent and stable.

Sagging doors

Hinge holes plugged and re-drilled, hinges replaced and doors aligned so they close cleanly.

Missing parts

Mouldings, spindles, feet and trims remade by hand to match the profile and timber of the original.

Our repair process

Fixed at the cause, not just the symptom

1

Inspection

We check every joint, rail and fixing, not only the obvious damage, so hidden weaknesses are caught early.

2

Dismantling

Failed joints are carefully separated. Old glue and broken dowels are cleaned out to bare, sound timber.

3

Rebuilding

New dowels, splines, blocks or replacement parts are fitted and glued under clamp pressure to cure fully.

4

Blending

Repairs are shaped, sanded and colour-matched so they disappear into the original finish.

5

Testing

The piece is load-tested, checked for squeaks and wobble and inspected before it goes home.

Typical result

From worn and wobbly to everyday strong

Old dining chairs are one of the most common pieces we repair. Years of leaning back loosens the joints, and once one joint goes, the others follow. Rebuilding all of them at once, rather than gluing the one that failed, is what makes the repair last.

After the frame is solid, we refresh the finish and, if needed, re-cover the seats so the whole set matches.

Questions & answers

Furniture repair FAQs

Straight answers to the questions people ask us most before booking. If yours is not here, call or message us and a technician will help.

Yes. Clean breaks can be glued and reinforced with hidden dowels. Badly shattered legs can be remade in matching timber and finished to blend with the rest of the chair.

We aim for repairs that are not noticeable at normal viewing distance. Filled areas are colour-matched and finished along with the surrounding surface.

Yes, within limits. Stripped screw holes, broken cam fittings and loose panels can be reinforced. We will advise if the board itself is too damaged to hold fixings.

Small jobs such as hinge adjustments, door alignment and minor fixes can often be done on site. Structural work is done in the workshop.

Properly rebuilt joints usually outlast the original factory joints. Our structural repairs are covered by a written workmanship warranty.
