Antique restoration
Careful, reversible restoration for antique and vintage furniture, guided by respect for original materials, patina and craftsmanship.
“The goal is not to make an old piece look new. It is to make it sound, stable and beautiful while keeping every honest sign of age that gives it value.”
The Fixorise restoration philosophy
Our approach
Antique furniture carries value in its original surfaces, joinery and hardware. Over-restoration, such as stripping an old shellac finish or replacing original handles, can permanently reduce both character and worth.
We document the piece, stabilise what is failing, and only replace what cannot be saved. Wherever possible we use materials and adhesives that a future restorer could reverse.
Restoration stages
I
We photograph and record the piece, its construction, finishes and previous repairs.
II
Loose joints, lifting veneer and weak areas are secured with compatible adhesives.
III
Missing parts are carved or turned in matching timber and fitted to the original.
IV
Surfaces are cleaned and revived, and shellac or wax finishes are rebuilt by hand.
